HEMOGLOBIN A1C (HbA1C) This blood test can be done in our office or sent out to a lab. It is a quick measure of your average blood sugars for the past 3 months. Hemoglobin (Hb) are molecules that carry oxygen in your blood. They become "sugar coated" in everyone. In diabetics, they are higher, and we measure the HbA1C to see what your average blood sugars have been over the past 3 months. According to the DCCT study, patients with a HbA1C lower than 7.1% have fewer complications of diabetes (such as eye, kidney, and nerve damage). HbA1C and Mean Blood Glucose
